Kenworth Brand History

The Kenworth story dates back to 1912, when George T. Gerlinger and his brother Louis Jr. they established a car and truck sales point under the name Gerlinger Motor Car Works. In 1914, they decided to build their own car called Gersix. In 1917, the Gerlinger Motor Company moved to Tacoma, Washington. In 1923, the company adopted the name Kenworth Motor Truck Company, joining the names of both shareholders, Harry Kent (son of Fryderyk Kent, who retired in 1919) and Edgar K. Worthington.

In 1926, the brand started the production of buses. A year later, in 1927, the first production plant in Canada was opened. In 1945, Kenworth was acquired by Pacific Car and Foundry Company (PACCAR), which is the third largest truck manufacturer in the world.

During World War II, the demand for cars increased significantly due to the high reliability and durability of Kenworth vehicles. In the 1950s, Kenworth halted the production of buses. In 1968, the first production plant in Australia was established, based in Melbourne. Currently, Kenworth manufactures a wide range of trucks in several countries.
